Community Captioning

We have engaged with the deaf magic community on many occasions, and always leave those conversations wishing that we could find a way to do more to support these magicians. Until you put yourself in their shoes, it's hard to imagine the difficulty of learning magic from a visual medium without subtitles. For example, try watching a magic DVD without any audio - it's practically impossible to learn magic by trying to piece together what the performer is saying.
That's why today we launch our Community Captioning initiative. It's as easy as this: if you are willing to help us by adding subtitles to one of our downloads or DVDs, we'll give you that product for free. This way, you get to help the deaf magic community, and get to learn magic for free at the same time!
Here's how to apply to get involved:
- Pick a download from our exclusives magic collection (these are products that we have created ourselves, and therefore, have the rights to add subtitles to). If you see a "subtitled" banner on the page, someone has already done the work on that product.
- Email us with the name of the download, explaining that you would like to write the subtitles for it.
- We'll then send you the download for free, along with instructions of how to create subtitles (technically, it's very easy - you simply need to open the video in a certain website that we'll give you, and type the words that the creator says).
For longer projects, you're welcome to split the job amongst a couple of friends. Just let us know about that when you make contact.
The Vanishing Inc. team are also committed to getting involved and adding as many subtitles to our videos as we can, personally. But together we can get things moving much quicker — and that's what makes the magic community so great!
